Officer Duties and Responsibilities
Co - Presidents:
A good president is a motivator, an inspirer, a manager, and a teacher. One responsibility is to plan before the school year starts. The president must communicate with other officers and committees. The president needs to be organized, keep commitments, and model expected behaviors. The president will lead meetings, create meeting agendas, and represent the chapter at special events. The president will have a part in inviting candidates for membership and spring induction.
Vice President: (Two needed)
The vice president shows responsibility for supervising the operations of the entire organization. It is important that the vice president be as well-informed as the president. The vice president must be prepared to assume more responsibility if needed. The vice president duties include communication with all committee heads, keeping a record of projects delegated to committees, and keeping a list of each committee’s time line. The vice president will be expected to update the chapter on committees’ progress at each chapter meeting.
Secretary:
The secretary duties include: keeping attendance at chapter meetings and other chapter events, writing Thank You cards on behalf of the Lufkin Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society, keeping an updated address/phone list of society members, taking meeting minutes, sending minutes to chapter members not present at meetings and to all officers, the chapter adviser, the school principal, vice principals, faculty, and the PTA president.
Treasurer:
The treasurer is responsible for accurate, complete accounts and plans. The treasurer will work closely with the chapter adviser completing daily reports and school funds record forms when necessary. The treasurer will be expected to be an active leader in fundraising events and during new membership.
Historian:
The historian is responsible for keeping a list of all members inducted into the Lufkin Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. The historian will also provide history of the chapter during the spring induction. The historian will keep school and family informed of chapter duties through the Lufkin Enlightening Monthly and will release special event information to local newspapers upon approval of the chapter adviser and school administration.
Parliamentarian: (Four needed)
The parliamentarian will keep a file of members’ service hours. The parliamentarian will encourage members to complete service hours needed for grade level and will inform the adviser of members not fulfilling required service hours. The parliamentarian will also work closely with the executive committee and adviser on chapter service projects.
